Senior Project Announcements
Class of 2015
You are beginning the process of drafting your Senior Project Proposals. Over the next several months, your Advisors will guide you step-by-step through the process of your proposals. It is essential that you attend Advisory weekly and that you complete each of the weekly homework assignments.
The folder labeled "Juniors" on this website was created just for you! In that folder, you will find the weekly directions from Advisory as well as all of the templates and signature papers you will need to successfully draft your proposals.
It is my pleasure to be working with your class- please come see me or email me if you have any questions.

Files are Updated
All of the files have been updated so that the dates correspond with the correct class. What does that mean? Seniors- access the folders labeled for Seniors (as opposed to Juniors). Juniors- the Junior file has been updated to contain all of the materials you will be receiving in Advisory this year and next.
Please email Mrs. Passmore or Mrs. Merideth if you cannot find a specific file.
Thank you for your patience while we updated everything!
As of this week, we have 160 seniors approved! Add your name to that list by revising and submitting your proposal in Advisory or straight to Mrs. Passmore in 140A.
The sooner you complete this part of the process, the sooner you can start your Senior Project. Please remember that procrastinating will only stress you out more.
If you are already approved, keep plugging away on your projects. Please keep in mind that you need to complete 3 Progress Reports throughout the duration of your project. More instruction will come on that later, but in the meantime, you can download the template and instructions from the Senior Project Website. It's under the folder "Portfolio Materials."
Some important dates to keep in mind:
These dates may seem far off, but they will get here quickly! Please also remember that it takes several weeks for your graders to grade the proposals, and most students need to revise several times. The approval process, even if you are diligent and submit regularly, could take up to 6 weeks. Please make it a goal to submit next week.
Come see me if you have any questions,
Interested in judging Senior Defense or Senior Boards?
Part of what makes the Senior Project a unique experience is that members from our community come to Helix to participate in the judging of Senior Defense and Boards. We would love for you to join the judging "team" and be involved for as much or as little time as you can spare on the Defense and Board dates.
This year, Senior Defense will take place in April- the dates are still undetermined.
Senior Boards will take place on May 27 and 28, from 12pm-4pm.
If you are interested in being involved, please contact Jennifer Osborn at: firstname.lastname@example.org
We look forward to having you involved!
Senior Project Resources
See here for guides for specific types of projects. If you use these, you will get approved sooner, as you will answer many of the questions your grader might have for you.
In this folder, you will find the documents that are in your Senior Project Proposal packet that you work on during Advisory.
Please also access the folder labeled "Senior Project Proposal" for documents relating to the actual DRAFTING of your proposal.
Search here for materials to help you assemble your project portfolio. Looking for sample portfolios? Go to the library and ask to see a few!
Still searching for a Senior Project? See Mrs. Passmore about these available options.
Curious about the paper requirements? Search here for the rubric, a sample paper, and sources to help you with organization and works cited.
Have questions about the Boards speech? Search here for requirements, organization tips, samples, and the scoring rubric.
Wondering what Defense will be like? Search here.
Need help drafting your proposal? Search here for templates and helpful hints. To get step-by-step directions on how to draft your proposal, please use the instructions in the "Junior" folder. The proposal is taught step-by-step in Junior Advisory, so those handouts will be helpful especially if you are new to Helix.
Please be aware that many documents have specific dates on them, so please use the templates specified for Seniors in this folder (not the ones for Juniors- those dates will be incorrect).
